The Royal Mint began operations over 1,100 years ago and during that time expanded their reach from just England to the entire British Isle. Before becoming the official Royal Mint, coinage was produced at the London Mint dating all the way back to 886 during the reign of Alfred the Great. Moving forward the Royal Mint now produces 15% of the world’s coin based currencies. Before the early 20th century, the Royal Mint even provided Canada with its entire line up of coinage.
